Payal lives in a poor village in Rajasthan, a part of India where many people live in poverty and girls are often forced into child marriage.
When 13-year-old Payal talks, adults and children alike listen. Her village, a child friendly village, have elected her as the leader of their child parliament. I was proud when I found out that so many people had voted for me, says Payal.

Her efforts have helped her village become child marriage free. In 2013 she was chosen as a jury member for the World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child in 2013. US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama met Jangid at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi in January 2015, with Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kailash Satyarthi.
On September 25, 2019, Payal was awarded the Goalkeepers Global Goals Changemaker Award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation when she was just 17. As a Bal Pradhan, Payal has worked tirelessly to empower children and women of her village.
May 16, 2023 Payal was also made one of the Worlds Childrens Prize jury members and traveled to Sweden to address the international audience with her speech on child marriage. Due to Payals collaborative efforts, the concept of veils has also ended in the Hinsala village.
