#2 Feb 3, 2021. It does look like a commercial that's a little rough around the edges. Check to see if it's 9mm or 30 Luger and if all the visible serial numbers match. A commercial model will have SNs on the bottom of the take down lever, trigger, underside of the side plate, barrel and receiver and back of the rear toggle link.

1940. Suffixes are placed on a Luger AFTER it has reached the first 10,000 guns for that series and are primarily placed on military guns. There are commercial, contract serial numbers and even mixtures of military style and commercial style numbers that may have assorted markings and even suffixes. 1917 DWM Luger P08 - All Serial Number Matching. 276. Sort by: [deleted] 3 yr. ago Edited 3 yr. ago. Like the post says, its a 1917 DWM Luger P08 with all serial numbers matching including the magazine. Its chambered in 9mm. The story told to me is that this is a bring back Luger from WW2, but it doesnt have any capture papers to prove that.
#1 Jan 4, 2019. I just picked up a DWM Luger. I don't know much at all about them. It is numbers matching, wood base plate mag, four digit serial number (5492). There is no date stamp on it like the other one's I've seen. There is no pitting, and there is some blue finish left.
Jan 23, 2023 Luger P08s produced before 1920 will have serial numbers that start with the letter A. Guns produced between 1920 and 1942 will have serial numbers that start with the letters byf or svw. Guns produced after 1942 will have serial numbers that start with the letters ac or duv. Another key feature to consider is the safety catch.
Sep 30, 2003 I have never seen a WWI Luger that didn't have the serial number along with the script suffix stamped in the barrel, just forward of the bore diameter number (8,82). I suspect it was rebarreled!!! Many WWI Lugers were reconditioned for use during WWII and some were rebarreled during this period.

Dec 18, 2011 It has a 3-digit serial number, which is 894. The only other markings besides having matching 94's marked all over the place are, the German safety marking. Here are a couple pictures.
The serial number is stamped on the front of the frame and the last two digits of the serial number are stamped on most of the gun's major parts. The serial number on the frame is accompanied by the DWM suffix "h" indicating manufacture in 1918. (WW I ended on 11 November 1918.)
Sep 4, 2023 You will note all of the serial numbers in my pic...I don't see those on your 1917 so they were polished off or replaced....all 1917's had serial numbers on about everything to include the sights. If parts were polished off of replaced 1800 at best.
