May 4, 2022 For CanESM5, we assess the model performance over the region of the western North America heat wave of 2021. The region used is a box, 45N to 52N, 237E to 241E . The model data are compared to reanalysis data from ERA5, for daily maximum temperature for boreal summer (JJA) over the period 19812010.
An extreme heat wave affected much of Western North America in late June and early July of 2021. The heat affected Northern California, Idaho, Western Nevada, Oregon, and Washington in the United States, as well as British Columbia, and, later, Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, and Yukon, all in Canada.
The 2021 Western North America heat wave was an extreme heat wave that affected much of Western North America from late June through mid-July 2021. Extreme event attribution found this was a 1000-year weather event, made 150 times more likely by climate change.
Mar 9, 2022 1 Introduction. An extremely strong heatwave event occurred from late June to early July of 2021 across western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Temperature over 40C were recorded in multiple locations. The all-time Canadian record of daily maximum temperature was broken with Lytton of British Columbia, Canada, reaching 49.6C on June 29.
