Black tourmaline was pretty common, but for all their hype on media about tourmaline, the few that we, in fact anyone, were finding, were extremely far between and mostly shards. We did find one nice pink tourmaline, two crunchy aquamarine, and a kunzite, plus a couple fair size quartz.

There are a wide variety of different types of tourmaline and a number are found here in the Oceanview Mine. The most common form seen is black tourmaline, called schorl. We also get green, deep red, pink, purple, blue and multi-colored tourmalines.

If you are looking to find gem quality gemstones then you might be disappointed. Mining takes time, hard work, and a lot of luck. That being said I found a pink tourmaline, watermelon tourmaline, aquamarine, kunzite, green spodumene, quartz, and lots of black tourmaline.
